I will never forget you!
Veteran's Day

On November 11, 2008 my friend from the Salisbury Elks Lodge went to the laying of

the wreath ceremony at the National cemetary in Salisbury, NC. This is such a special

occasion for me because of certain family members but especially because my

Grandfather is buried out there. There are others in my family who have served but he is

the only one out there. Veteran's Day also means a lot to me because of the veterans I

met through my volunteering and helping out with VA bingo. The Cemetery has a black

gate that you go intoand a stone structure around the cemetery plots. As you walk into

the cemetery you see the layout of the Cemetery signififing if its Air Force, Navy, Marine

Corp as well as others.Since his funeral in 1996 the cemetery staff have added more

plots. The weather on Veteran's Day was sunny w ith a light breeze so I wore a pair of

black dress slacks, a purple dress shirt, and brown dress shoes. As I stood there

listening to the gentleman playing taps I couldn't help but to think about my Grandfather.

After the laying of the wreath we headed over to the Veteran Affairs(VA) Medical

Centerfor thr cemony honoring the veterans. There were severalawards given out to a few

veterans for Veteran of the Year, Chaplain of the Year, and Officer of the Year
