For a Better World by Lizelle Tabaquero
For a Better World
by Lizelle Tabaquero

“Nothing is impossible if we are working together. Hand by hand to finish what we have started, from the start to the end of bottom line.”

The NSTP- CWTS is one of our great choices as a first year college students. It is more on being concerned citizens even if you are doing single things in our society. It gives us an idea of how we can deal to reality together with our fellow classmates.

The First Semester of NSTP- CWTS is more on self developing and building our self esteem as individuals. However, the Second Semester is different from that. It focuses on the community service at the Barangay Sta. Arcadia.

Sta. Arcadia is such a good place for us to do our tasks. It is where we experienced hard work, cooperation, teamwork, and kindliness to the people. Seeing the people here, especially the children gladden my heart. It gives me the feeling of happiness by helping.

From the start of our Second Semester, an opening program at the gymnasium was given for us. All the Pastors who handled an advisory class were introduced one by one and the designated places were also discussed. Our Adviser was no other than, still our beloved Pastor Rev. Mario C. Esteban.

In our first visit at Sta. Arcadia we used survey forms. Two forms for every one person. The forms were collected for tallying. The results give us an idea for our scheduled Saturday activities.

In the month of December, a Christmas program was organized by some BSN students. We, the BSECE’s and AECE’s, together with the BSCOE’s followed Sir Esteban, where he showed us the place at Sta. Arcadia where we really should give an attention.

It’s pretty good to know that the last year students of Sir Esteban work together just to make a public comfort room, to help some people in their facilities. I considered them a good role model for us. We therefore continue what they have started.

In January is our second community service, which is the outreach program for the children. The BSN and BSCOE are assigned for that while we are only ready to help them in doing the program. I am the l one who leads the peaceful opening prayer.

A seminar with a theme: Proactively Taking Actions on Global Warming by Proper Waste Management was assigned by us, the BSECE and AECE. We worked together to make the program prepared.

Though the seminar is not as successful as the other seminars because we don’t easily catch the attentions of the people, I can therefore say that it still worth. In fact those who attended it and watched an interesting documentation made by our speaker, Rev. Mario C. Esteban, gathered knowledge from how to prevent pollution and to save the mother earth.

I am not present when the instruction for making red egg was showed, for a reason that I, together with my over-all officer mates visited the Mabini Extention and Magsaysay Norte. I’ve watched the short video of Edisen, giving instructions. All I can say is, it’s a great way to give the fellow Arcadians an idea to have a little extra business.

Sir Esteban taught us how to make “uling” from the recycled papers. I am given a chance to be the first one who followed his instructions by means of molding it into a small sphere and then, after that, some students also do the same. How nice to learn it. We should try this at home. So that waste can be a useful material.

Cleaning Sta. Arcadia, using our brought things, is one of my favorite activities here. Truly, I enjoyed sweeping the grass and collects garbage. Though I can feel my sweat, I keep on cleaning, because I like this task. I can see that all of us are cooperating and it makes me feel the harmony of teamwork.

Sir Esteban often say, “Akala nila tayo ang nagtatapon ng basura pero di nila alam na tayo ang nag-iipon” , it gives me an idea that we should be grateful of what we are doing for helping the residents in Sta. Arcadia in collecting their wastes properly and for experiencing it.

It breaks my heart to know that after the clean and green program at Sta. Arcadia, there is no more community service. We are now already at the finish line but I guess we are not ending yet. As we get older, we can apply what we have learned. We can all together hand by hand do things possible for a better world, from start to the end.
