George is leaving Alice but he doesn't want to.
“George? What are you doing home in the middle of the day?”

“Alice, I had to come home for just a minute. There’s something I need to tell you, explain really.”

“Are you bleeding? You’re hurt!”

“Don’t touch me, hon. Everything is alright. I just wanted to tell you that.”

“Hold still, George. I need to stop the bleeding and see how bad it is.”

“Alice, listen to me. Everything is alright. I need you to know that.”

“Hold still, George!”

“There was an accident at work, Alice. The crane was lifting some pipe and one of the cables broke. The pipe swung out and fell. It hit several people. It hit me.”

“And they just sent you home, without giving you any first aid or seeing a doctor? What is wrong with them?”

“There’s nothing they can do. I’m fine. I just wanted to tell you that and that I love you. Everything is alright, will be alright. You’ll see.”

“You’re not making sense. I’m taking you to the emergency room.”

“It won’t help. I have to go, I can’t stay.”

“George, you’re scaring me! Please let me help you!”

“I have to go, they’re coming.”

“You can’t go anywhere, you’re hurt.”

“They’re coming, Alice.”

“Who’s coming?”

“They are.”

“Darling, you’re out of your mind. I’m calling an ambulance!”

“No Alice! I don’t have much time. I just wanted to tell you that I love you and everything is alright. Put the phone down Alice. They’re nearly here. They’re going to tell you something. Something that will make you understand.”

“I need an ambulance, my husband is injured. He’s not making any sense. I think he may have a concussion. He’s bleeding.”

“Alice, hang up. They’re turning onto our street.”

“I’m going to lay the phone down, but I’m not hanging up, he’s trying to go out the door. Please hurry, I’m so frightened.”

“I have to go. I can’t be here when they get here. They need to tell you something.”

“George, wait! You can’t leave, you’re injured. The ambulance will be here soon.”

“Listen to me! They’re here! They have to tell you about me and I can’t be here!”

“What! What do they have to tell me?”

“That I’m not coming home again. That I’m dead!”

“Don’t say that George, you’re here, you’re alive!”

“I love you and everything is alright. Goodbye Alice.”

“George! George!”
