A short interview in the shrink's office. Yes, the meaning of life is walnuts.
A New Take on Life: In Therapy

Just bear with me a little longer and I’ll tell you the secret to life. It’s in a wall somewhere, this is it in a nutshell…. Walnuts, ha ha ha. Life can be explained by a walnut. You can take a walnut, and you can eat it if you want, but you can also grow it. If you grow it, you have to plant it somewhere. You can try to grow it without instruction, and sometimes you luck out and it might grow. But if it does grow and you only barely gave it enough water while it was a sprout, it might never give you anymore walnuts. And the main goal to life is to get more walnuts.

The main goal in life is to get walnuts?

No, not to get real walnuts, but I guess it’s pretty close. The goal is to grow a successful and happy tree that might one day be able to grow more successful trees of it’s own because of your guidance early in it’s life.

So life is about parenthood?

No, of course not. It’s about walnuts. In fact, that was merely one way I could use walnuts to say one of the things people think life is about. I could make it about money, sex, abuse, power… You name it, and walnuts can be an example of it.

So you’re saying that life is what you make of it?

Take what you want from it. I don’t interpret, I just talk. If you want a translator go to the philosopher’s embassy, they’ll tell you what to believe. But, one word of warning, they’ll be biased. Everyone is, by their own purpose in life.

So how did your writing go today?

Nothing is going to make it out of my brain today without being struck twice by lightning; doing the hula in a mini-skirt while smoking grass. My muse is doing the hula. Damn bitch, I’ll never get her to talk to me tonight, then.

That bad, huh? That’s funny, I thought your writing was doing pretty well recently? I thought you had a few you wanted me to listen to?

I changed my mind. It’s not finished yet.

Oh come on, it’s therapy. I’m supposed to hear everything, the good and the bad even if it’s just poetry. It will help you get it out. You know you like getting feedback.

I’m not sure.

You know you like it. Besides, I get paid for this, and what else are we going to talk about for another 20 minutes?

Walnuts?
