Contest entry - 300 words. The politics behind the Class President Election get dirty.
“But Mrs. Johnson, I would make a great class president. I’m always here, and finish all my assignments. I'm a cheerleader and work well with others."

She didn’t look up from her computer for a long time, obviously ignoring me. This wasn’t going to be good but I needed proof. “You don’t work well with others. You do all the work for everyone else so there won’t be a fuss, not a good team player. You would end up being the whole team. That’s not something I want to back in my candidate. If you want to run for president, go ahead, but this Principal’s not backing you. I’m backing Suzy Carmichael. I know I can trust her to do the right thing.”

My face reddened and I wanted to tear up but I wouldn’t let her see that. “You mean she’ll do what you want her to do!”

“That’s right. I’ll be able to lead the representatives to do what is best for the school, because she won’t have any idea what she’s supposed to be doing. Is that so wrong? I’m doing what’s best for my school.”

“Do you know what this means? You’ll take away all influence the students have at the school.”

“I’m getting tired of this. Drop this right now or I’ll find a reason you can’t run.”

“Just tell me this. Is the count going to be correct? You won’t cheat to make her win?”

“We’ll see,” she said as she smiled an evil smile.

The door burst open with a dozen students scrambling into the small office. Johnny, who I didn’t think knew who I was, pushed up to her desk and said, “I’ll help with the count. Ashley turned on the P.A. We heard everything. Suzy will never win now.”
