when you wanted to protect your special someone, but couldnt.
"Her name was Jessica," the mother said, choking on her tears as she looked at the me. Everything was black and white, no colors, no surprises, no anything.
"Her age?" I asked.
"13," the mother tangled her bony fingers with her black, smooth hair.
"And how did she die, Ms. Victor?" Mrs. Victor gulped, she knew the day would come when this question would follow, everyday she dreaded to renew her memories of her child.
"7 months ago..." Mrs. Victor trailed. "Jessica was playing with the swing back yard. She was a very sweet girl, but she had the strangest eyes, blue the doctors decided to name it." Mrs. Victor watched as I scribbled on my note pad. "Jessica played on the swing until there was no crack of light outside, I was worried for a moment, she kept doing this all day long, 7 days a week. My deceased husband, John, dismissed it, saying 'it was just another child thing'" Mrs. Victor padded her eyes dry. "Few days later, John died. A drunk guy crashed with him, the drunk survived, but my John didnt. Jessica wouldn't speak to me, she wouldn't eat, she would always cry at night asking for her father." Said Mrs. Victor.
"Days later after we went to that famous bakery shop, Jessica stop and asked to buy a rose for her father grave after we went to the flower shop, I agreed and we went to the grave, Jessica wasn't herself anymore, I could see her tensing up and very defensive." Mrs. Victor pushed some stray hair out of her grey eyes.
"Jessica, she cried, poured her sweet heart out, I turned my back to her so I could get napkins, when I turned back, she disappeared. Gone." said Mrs. Victor. "I searched for her, everyday and everynight but I couldnt find her, it was like she was never here on earth. Ever." She looked at me, tears spilling down.
"But Detective Jones, no one took my sweet Jessica, she ran away. Few weeks later a single rose was on my doorstep, the same one Jessica took for her father's grave."
"That's impossible Mrs. Victor. We confirmed her body, you even identify it as Jessica Victor. She even had the blue eyes." I asked gently. "Jessica, she...I'm sorry you need to go, im very sorry." She pushed me out as I quickly grabbed my stuff. The door shut with a big Thump! that echoed my ears, it took me a second to realize heavy rain is coming and begin walking down toward the police sation, as I walked a girl with beautiful curls walked past me. I stopped and stared at the girl, she had soft blue eyes, and a smile so sweet it made your heart lift pleasantly.
