Black Hole Eyes

I remember when your
eyes exuded sunshine
contagious, addictive
rays of life.
Now all I see are
piercing black holes.
They pull me in
-still addictive-
til I’m merely floating
in front of you- a ghost.
It’s hard to recall
anything but the dark
pits of sadness and fear.
Maybe the light
was just a dream-
a comforting apparition
disguising the labyrinth
hiding underneath.
Your black hole eyes
take everything:
our words, our light
seem stuck forever.
Even if I could
walk away and
tear myself from
the labyrinth
I’d still only be a ghost
-invisible and silent-
because the light
that makes me visible
and the words that
make me heard
are caught somewhere
in your black hole eyes.
