hiding from hurt
I wore the mask again today
To keep the pain from sight.
I built a cage around my heart
And locked the gates down tight.
I called the warriors home to serve
and bravely, standing guard;
they scare away intruders
and protect a soul that’s scarred.

I wore the mask again today
So the world will never see,
The hidden fears and wounds of battle
Branded on my gentle psyche.
