A seamstress tale.

                                  Hanging by a thread.

Cherry colored cabinets
Surround the room
A light the flickers
It will stop I assume

Open my windows
And sit in my chair
Ill check out my list
for my next repair

Turn on my radio
start up my white horse
its time to get sewing
I am right back on course

The radio starts playing
a familiar tune
you can bet in a minute
Ill be whistling soon

Hems to sew
sleeves to fix
mending sometimes
takes many tricks

Habits and slips
an occasional veil
makes life interesting
like checking email

Collars and gussets
and coveralls
short ones and big ones
I sew for them all

Bust lines and hemlines
Cuffs and belts
It gets complicated
if i say so myself

white thread black thread
there's not much to choose
but that's what is necessary for me to use

Zippers and buttons
and absolutely no bows
its cut and cry
as everyone knows

Scissors and patters
and the there's velcro
it sticks like the dickens
and seldom lets go

Hooks and eyes
and an occasional snap
to keep things together
and to pick up the slack

Darts and pleats
just to name a few
they go in each habit
when its made and its new

Pencils and yardstick
and bushels of pins
they help me with marking
and taking things in

I measure and mark
each habit I make
and hope to Dear Lord
I make no mistakes

With only one pattern
to fit everyone
The mothers the sisters
and maybe a few nuns

When asked if there's pressure here
year after year
you think I"m drinking water
but its really beer

So if i may mention
I love this old place
All the prayers and the laughter
put a smile on my face

so between all the sewing
for the new brides to be
I will break now for coffee
or maybe just tea
