The Vendetta

Brady stood at the doorway almost afraid to enter.  The frame splintered, the door off its hinges.  He gazed into a ransacked room.  Clothing and personal possessions littered the small studio apartment.  Broken nick-knacks left glass shards everywhere.  Two uniformed officers with latex gloves were carefully examining the room.

         “Where’s the victim?”

One officer pointed to the isle in the kitchenette where her body lay.  He entered and carefully maneuvered through the debris, finding her face down in a large pool of blood.  Her nightgown pulled up exposing her from the waist down.

“Angela Folly, thirty-two, SWF and living alone.” The young office was dutifully reciting from his note pad.  “Possible B-and-E… She may have been raped.  One GSW to the head.”

The detective held out his hand, snapping his fingers. “Gloves!”

The uniformed officer quickly produced a pair of powdered gloves from a plastic bag at his hip.  Brady moved into the narrow space beside the victim and put them on.  “Was CSI here?”

“Not yet… On the way though!”

“Continue to check the room, give her some privacy!”  He was obviously annoyed.

The officer moved away and Brady kneeled beside her.  The still wet mass of hair at the base of her neck left the bullet hole hidden.

Being careful not to disturb anything, he did as thorough examination as he could; muttering under his breathe, “Angie, what did you get yourself into?”

Four white Roses were carefully positioned around her head and one lay in the small of her back.  ‘Her favorite flower.’  He thought.

Out of sight of the officers, Brady opened a cabinet door, reaching up under the sink and recovered her Sergeants badge and awards for bravery.  Tears welled up in his eyes, “That SOB!  Got you after all!”
