Some times you can see places without leaving home.

Zoo Trip

It was on a Friday. The sky was blue.
My first grade class was going to the zoo.
With papers signed, I dressed up quick.
But at the door Mom thought I looked sick.
She saw some spots all on my face.
She took my temperature just in case.
She called the doctor whose name was Fox.
And after five minutes learned that I had chicken pox.
I cried so hard. I said that it wasn’t fair.
I wanted to see the big brown bear.
But back in bed I had to stay.
My spots were bigger. I scratched all day.
I slept a little. Then I waited for lunch.
Mom gave me a sandwich and my favorite fruit punch.
I asked for dessert and Mom began to smile.
She’d bring it up special, in just a little while.
I was reading a book. It was half past two.
Mom carried a sign that said, “Leroy’s Zoo!”
They were on plate. Five cookies that I could see.
All different animal crackers, in a zoo made just for me.
The lion, camel, and elephant crunched.
Then the big gorilla topped off my zoo trip lunch.
But I couldn’t eat the bear at all you see.
He is a special animal who will stay with me.
