flash fiction
Blinding snow, like a white pillowed blanket covering the eyes, fell from what appeared to be an endless void of nothing from the sky. The ground coated now, shimmered as the new snow fell harder and harder making the illusion of sky and land meeting together as though it were heaven. Walking in the clouds Davin thought as he kept his stride towards home. The little cabin would be another fifty yards. He has walked the path many times before. Today however, the snow so thick in its fall, his beacon, the little lantern hanging on the front stoop, lighting the way, calling him home, could not be seen. He knew it was there, it always is. Driving forward, he thought of his mother waiting for him to appear out of the blizzard. She would be standing by that light, hiding her concern for his well being with a smile. Rounding the old pine Davin saw the smoke billow from the chimney, flowing like charcoal staining the cloud with its impurity but was a welcome sight. Then closer now to the well he had come, his mother he saw standing, waiting, smiling. She opened her arms, Davin embraced her, "I'm OK mama."        "I know you are my sweet baby," kissing him on the forehead.  "The horses are well also mama."    She hugged him one more time before they entered the cabin.
