This is a story my friend Technicalities and I will write together, chapter by chapter.
Akira stared at herself in the mirror. "Who is this weirdo?" she thought. In a few minutes, she was going to take the bus to Oakwood Community College in downtown New York City and she felt she was going crazy. In her mind, she went over everything for the millionth time.

"Suitcase- Check

Notebook- Check

Pencil- Check

Cellphone-Check"

Her mom came in the room, her little brother trailing after her. She had tears in her eyes. "Are you ready to go?"

Seeing her mom cry made Akira want to cry too, but she willed herself to stay strong. "Yes, I'm ready." she whispered.

Akira's mother wiped her eyes and smiled. "At least you'll have Asher there."

Asher was Akira's best friend since elementary school and they went through all their problems together.

Akira smiled. "Yeah, I'm glad she'll be there."

After saying her tearful goodbyes, Akira walked to the bus stop. Asher was already there, looking just as pale as Akira.

She turned to her and said, "I still can't believe this."

Akira smiled. "I'm so nervous, I think I'm gonna barf."

Asher took her camera off her shoulder. "Well, you know what I do when I'm nervous." She started clicking away at random things. Photography was her life, and Asher never left home without her camera.

Akira laughed. Out of habit, she made a quick haiku in her mind describing her feelings:

Goodbye dear childhood
Going to college today
Should I laugh or cry?

She winced. It wasn't that great. Her poetry usually depended greatly on her mood. It wasn't worth writing down.

Finally the bus came. They looked at each other. "You ready?" Akira whispered.

Asher grinned. "Let's get on."
