Three Minute Read
Waking Up

She lay in bed listening to the radio. Each song hammering her crazy emotions, she and Brad broke up. “I will love you forever…” yeah right, two years isn’t forever. What was that fight about? She couldn’t pinpoint the issue as she hashed over the screaming they’d done.

She listened “love the way you are…” “hot stuff, all for me…” “Can I get your number?” who writes this stuff? “Can’t live without you…” Yes! How could she live without Brad? She slumped back under the covers. Brad. What started that fight anyway? They hardly ever fought. Was it about the window? She’d opened the window when he had the AC on in the car. It was so stupid. She started to shut it and he started to turn off the AC and it just went sour from there. “You stole my heart, let me steal yours…” It’s broken you jerk! she thought.

The guy on the station was talking. “We have a dedication this morning.” he said, “this guy says his girl always listens to the radio as she’s waking up.” Brad knows she always listens to the radio while she’s waking up! “He’s trying to make up for being a jerk last night.” Brad was a jerk last night! She leaned closer. “He wants her to know how sorry he is, so he’s sending her this song hoping she will forgive him.” Be from Brad, be from Brad, she begged the radio.

As the music started, “This song is dedicated with love from Brad,” YES!!!

She sat up. “Please don’t let our year together go because of my stupidity.” Two years, she corrected, “I love you Susan!” Amy sat up straight on the edge of the bed.

I always thought Susan was his cousin… she thought.
