What Would You Do?

or

Were You There?

The prophet hangs upon
His cross of martyrdom
as his worshipers’ fall
to their knees below and
bathe in the blood
that promises a cleansing
salvation for their souls.
They weep with mingled tears of
hypocrisy and joy
as they see His lifeless body
torn from the wood of destruction
and follow a shell to the grave.

What Would You Do?

The prophet hangs upon
His cross of martyrdom
As his worshipers’ fall
To their knees below Him

Bathe in the cleansing blood
That promises a change
Salvation for their souls.
Weep not, He shall return

Pharisees, protectors
religion was their god
Sadducees forced the law
power in Sanhedrin

Disciples fled in fear
they had no faith inside
Hypocrisy and joy
Doubt and belief alike

Mother never left Him
she knew He had to go
Mary, the one He loved
tears covering her face

Romans were scoffing him
not knowing what they do
A thief who called His name
will be with Him today

Just a few there with Him
the end has now arrived
Must make sure He is dead
the Sabbath will arrive

Torn from the wood of life
some follow just a shell
Into the grave, He went
a full resurrection
