Flash Fiction
Love?

Jane lit a candle as the instructions told her to. She was so excited she could barely contain herself. It had been over six months since she obtained the potion and she had finally gotten a personal item of Jeremy’s to use. Sunglasses were not the kind of item she has hoped for, but no matter, as long as they were his it would still work.

She put the glasses in the dish and carefully opened the envelope, sprinkling the powder over them. Adding one drop of her own tears, easily collected since she cried almost every night over her unrequited love for Jeremy, she chanted the incantation until the mixture began to glow. It was done! Smiling she sat hugging herself, tomorrow she would seek him out, one look at her and he would fall hopelessly in love with her. She knew he ran in the park every morning, she just had to be there. Tomorrow!

The next morning Jeremy was sitting at the kitchen table getting ready to go to the park when his grandfather walked in. Jeremy jumped up to help him.

“How’s the leg today?” he asked.

“Better, thanks,” Gramps said, “it comes and goes at my age. I need to start walking more, it would help.”

“Why don't you come with me? You could walk a bit while I run, get some fresh air at the same time. I'll bring you back after.

“Thanks Jeremy, great idea!”

“Oh and I bought you a new pair of sunglasses, I had to buy new ones myself,” Jeremy pulled out sunglasses and handed them to his grandfather.

“Never found your old ones huh.” Gramps said.

“No, and I'm such a jerk too, I even lost the ones you lent me yesterday, and at the stupid park again!.”
