Robert Frost made a decision when he came to a fork in the road. He "took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference."

We make decisions all the time. Some too, can make a difference.

The summer of 1973 was hanging on during the last week of August. The morning weather report was "another triple H day, hot, humid and hazy. Temps will make it into the nineties, with the humidity tropical."

The night before had left me a little melancholy, after listening to "Candle In the Wind" on Elton John's new album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road." Early fame hadn't been enough to protect Norma Jean, or Marilyn if you prefer, from a too early death. A sad decision.

I needed a pick me up, so decided on one more day at the beach before returning to UCONN. A reasonable decision.

Barbara, my favorite beach buddy that summer, agreed to join me. "Hey Carol, let's go to Hammonasset this time," she suggested. We'd been to Misquamiciut a lot, so I figured why not.. Another decision bagged.

Left home in one piece bathing suits; keeping the Mom's happy. Bikinis replaced them in the changing rooms at the beach. If you're keeping count, that's the day's third decision.

We'd been in and out of the water a couple of times, and were stretched out on our towels, when something hit the sand near us. A summer time favorite, a Frisbee.

"No accident," Barbara whispered, as we looked up to see the two guys who'd been tossing it around headed our way. Both good looking, but...

"I'm taller," I quipped, "so you get the shorter one."

The fourth decision that day. It too, "has made all the difference."

Tommy and I will celebrate our 42nd anniversary next week.
