Chapter 2
As the door opened, I could see Anna's face peering through the opened gap. When she saw me, she opened the door widely and hugged me. She didn't mind that I was wet and she could tell from my bags and ran down mascara that something was wrong.
"Come on inside," she said as she took my bags in.
When I entered the house, I saw all of my other friends sitting in the living room. Their expressions quickly turned into worry when they saw me. They sat me down on the couch and began asking me questions. I told them about Marcus and how I caught him with Amber and how I got fired from my job. I could not take it anymore and I burst out crying. My two friends Kaycee and Fallon held me in their arms as they consoled me
"I can't believe Marcus did that to you," Gabrielle said handing me a cup of water
"Amber Swenson," Fallon said as she rolled her eyes in disgust, "That bitch can never let someone live their life in peace."
"I know," Kaycee adds "I'm so sorry you had to go through a breakup like this, Emmy."
"You can stay here with me for as long as you'd like," Anna said holding my cold hands "I could use a roommate."
I smile as I realize how grateful I am for these four. Sure, Marcus had cheated on me and kicked me out but these girls stayed with me through thick and thin. We were best friends since high school and we told each other everything.
"Thank you all so much," I reply as I wipe away my tears, "You girls are the best."
"You know what? Screw that jerk!" Fallon said as she stands up from the couch, "You deserve better than that sucker. It's time you move on. Don't make him feel like a winner."
"You talk like it's easy to do that," Gabrielle replied
"Fallon's right," Anna replied, "There's no way we're gonna make that jerk think he won. Which is why we're all going to a party tomorrow evening."
"We are?" I ask in confusion
"Yes, we are," Gabby says in excitement, "There'll be so many hot guys there and..."
"Hold on," Kaycee interrupts, "Whose party is it?"
"Oh. The CEO of the company I work in invited everyone to this Bachelor party that's tomorrow and I wanted to invite you three to come with me," answered Anna
"That's fantastic," Fallon exclaimed, "I'm in."
"Count me in, too" Gabby added
"Count me in, too," Kaycee squeals
"Sorry," I answered, "Count me out on this one."
They all frowned as they looked at me
"Come on, Emmy. It'll be fun," Fallon persisted, "Please?"
I turned to look at my friends. They all looked at me with puppy eyes. I tried to ignore them but they pushed it further and I gave in
"Fine, I'll go," I said sighing
They all whooped and cheered and they gave hugged me tightly.
"Okay now," Anna said clapping twice, "Let's go to bed."
They all went into their sleeping bags and as they were settling in, Anna led me to the bathroom to change from my wet clothes and into the Pj's she had given me. When I was done, I went back into the living room and they were all fast asleep. I sat on the window seat and looked out the window as raindrops hit against the glass. I sighed deeply as I was trying to process what happened today. I got fired from my programming job and Marcus decided to dump me the harshest way he could think of. Ugh! Just the thought of it makes me want to go back to that apartment and kill them both, or even better, set their clothes on fire, burn them both alive and forget they ever existed. Deep down that was how I felt but some other part of me just wanted to be back with Marcus. Sure, he was a jerk but before that, he was so sweet and caring. I wondered what had happened that he became so cold and why it happened.
The next morning, I woke up to the smell of something burning in the kitchen and my friends screaming and laughing. I ran into the kitchen panting heavily and coughing.
"What happened here?" I ask with a coughing voice
"Fallon tried to toast bread... again," Anna replied as she opened the window to let out the smoke.
"Don't blame me," Fallon said as she threw away the burnt bread, "Your toaster's broken!"
"Yeah, right," Anna replied sheepishly, "Blame my toaster."
I was too hungry to say anything. I turned to Gabrielle and Kaycee who were munching on some cereal and they didn't seem to care about what the other girls were talking about. I sit next to them with an empty bowl. Gabrielle turns to me
"Want some?" She asks as she takes another spoonful of cereal
"Sure," I reply as she passes me the box of cereal and the bottle of milk.
I pour some cereal into my bowl and I begin eating.
"Are you done?" Kaycee asks as she puts her bowl into the sink, "Cause we have to talk about what to wear for that bachelor party."
"I agree with Kaycee," Gabrielle answers, "We don't even know the host."
"According to the invitation," Anna replies as she flips the invitation, "Dressing code is black, red, and white."
"The colors of valentine's day?" I ask in confusion
"The thing is I have never met the CEO in person," Anna replies nervously, "I hear he's secretive and has a pretty sad love story. His fiancee cheated on him with his best friend and they ran away on the day of the wedding."
"Oh, that sucks," Kaycee adds, "He must have felt so bad."
"I can relate to that," I say as I scoff bitterly, "Feelings suck!"
"Don't worry, Emmy," Fallon says while patting me on the head, "Tonight will make you forget everything."
Fallon was right. If I wanted to forget about Marcus, I had to go to the party tonight. It does sound fun and besides, I had my friends with me.
"Alrighty," Gabrielle says as she stretches, "Let's get ready cause we have some serious shopping to do,"
With that said, we all left the kitchen and into Anna's bedroom. When we were done getting ready, we grabbed our purses from the living room
"I'm driving," I said as I grabbed the car keys from the kitchen counter
My friends all seemed to agree
"I call dibs on the front seat!" Gabrielle screamed as she rushed outside.
We went into the car and we drove to the mall. When we arrived, the parking lot was not empty but it wasn't full either, so finding parking wasn't hard. When we entered, Fallon, Kaycee, and Gabby ran to the dress section
"This red dress is gorgeous," exclaimed Gabby as she holds a flowy, long lengthed red dress to her body.
"It is gorgeous," compliments Fallon, "But I love this skin-tight black dress "
She holds out a short, black dress
"I like it," she adds as she smiles at her newfound treasure
I turn to look at Anna who is analyzing the dresses and she looks like she is deep in thoughts. She then snaps her fingers.
"I've got it!" She exclaims as she gives a friendly smirk, "We should do the pure sheep"
"Oh my gosh, YES!" exclaimed
