Need Help?

“Do you need help?”

I looked up at the voice ready to snap. I was sick of people always thinking I needed help with things.

Sometimes I wondered if I had a big sign on my back that said, ‘Loser! Can’t do anything! Please help or she’ll be here all day!’

I always thought it was rude for people to say ‘Be careful!’ as if you automatically wouldn’t. Unfortunately, the idea is not thoroughly unwarranted on me. I admit, I can be a klutz. My mind usually runs faster than my hands or my feet, so I’m always knocking things over, tripping on things, dropping things. I’m honestly not failing to be careful as much as jumping ahead thought-wise, while still being behind, body wise. But this wasn’t even one of those situations.

All that was happening was I was picking up some packages to carry to my car. I hadn’t dropped a one! There weren’t too many, they weren’t heavy, just a few small, light packages. A child could carry them!

I finished looking up. There next to me was the most handsome man I had ever seen. Curly brown hair, giant blue eyes, smiling right at me.

I must have looked a bit too long without a reaction, he suddenly frowned and said, “Are you all right!?”

I think I just might even have drooled...

Suddenly a voice came from behind, “Dan! There you are!” A gorgeous woman, walked up, I didn’t drool this time.

I actually said, snottily too, “I’m fine.”

Then the woman said, “Jake’s waiting! You know how impatient my husband can be! You’ve been his brother all your life!”

But he said, “Let him wait,” and he took my packages and walked me to my car.

Now that’s how things that work start out.
