Things Change

“Do you know what this is?”

“Doggie!”

“That’s right, Honey!” Mom said, turning the page of the book.

Tina, wiggled in excitement, this was one of her favorite activities.

“What’s this?” Mom said, it was a tree.

“Treeeeeee.....” Tina said, giggling in delight.

Suddenly the phone rang, Mom put down the book to take the call. It was someone she needed to talk to, so she grabbed another book for Tina, and sat back to get through the call.

Tina knew she was on her own for a while, but didn’t really like the book Mom gave her so she crawled over to the bookcase. The bottom shelf was all her books, but the upper shelf had some Mom and Dad books.

Pulling a shiny one down, she sat and turned the pages. It had pictures on every page!

Eventually Mom finished the call and turned to see what Tina was looking at. It was a catalog for an automobile parts store.

“Oh Honey, that’s not a fun book! Let’s go back to reading the book we had!”

Tina looked down at the book, which had pictures of various old cars on each page. Turning one more page before she had to give it up, she suddenly screeched!

“Honey what happened! Did you get a paper cut?” Mom said rushing over. Tina seemed fine, no cuts, but fascinated by the picture on the page.

“That’s an old car Honey,” Mom said, loving that she was interested in the picture.

“Shevy!!” Tina said, excited!

“No Honey, it’s a car, an auto-mobile,” Mom said slowly, trying to keep things straight, without confusing her.

“Fify-sevn Shevy!!” Tina squealed, smiling.

Mom looked at the picture, it was a picture of a green nineteen fifty-seven Chevrolet.

That day, thoughts about life changed forever, for Mom.
