Heat Wave

We didn’t have many heat waves, but this was a beauty. The entire summer had been hot, and dry. Our usual rain, very slim so far. Many of the bushes were wilting, the flowers long gone, unless you snuck out and watered them. We could water. Ten minutes between five and six in the afternoon... Who makes up these rules? I could never water all my flowers in ten minutes! So, I snuck around with a pitcher watering just enough to get us through this. I justified it by skipping my daily shower often (I don’t see enough people daily to offend...)

As I sat on my shady back porch this morning, I saw a bird I’d never seen before. It was snow white. Then, just before it landed on the bush, a ray of sunshine caught it’s wings and it literally looked like a silver arrow coming through the air and hitting my bush!

It landed where I could still see it, and turned, and looked right at me as if it knew me! Knowing my imagination was involved, still, I said “Hello bird! How are you today?”

It cocked it’s head, as if it were actually trying to decide how to answer, so I added, “It’s pretty hot out here isn’t it.”

Then the bird opened its beak and made a noise. Caught up in my fantasy, I said “Excuse me? I’m sorry, I don’t speak bird.

And then it actually said, “Darn right, it’s damn hot! Why don’t you get a friggin birdbath for this stupid yard?” it said, in English!

Well that’s when I woke up, and now I am buying a bird bath. And, I absolutely intend to fill it, daily! And it has nothing to do with that crazy dream either!!!

I don’t think...
