Lost Again

“You are in danger,” said the tinny voice from the GPS.

I quickly looked out the window, it was pitch dark and the only lights I had to go by were my headlights, this road seemed to have few streetlights, and far between.

I looked at the GPS, stunned! It had never said anything like that before. Just street names when I needed to make a turn, or traffic things, or location stuff.

I should have upgraded the thing, long ago. I basically didn’t really understand it at all, which is a terrible position to be in with something you rely upon, on a daily basis.

I can’t remember street names until I see them or hear them. Some street on the left...” and then when I’d see the sign, “Oh yeah, Hilldale Road!” Well, by then I’d usually missed it. The GPS was my savior as soon as I got it! But it is getting a tad old.

I didn’t even notice really until they changed all the numbers of the exits off Mass Pike, and I’d never updated the GPS. I had a few bad trips... But, then I noticed a sign under the new number saying “Old number blah blah blah.” Well, I just started reading those signs instead, who needs to upgrade!

The GPS interrupted my frantic thoughts again... “You are in danger...” and then scratchy noises. Then again! “You are in dan...” more scratchy noises and then a small pop and the light went off!

I panicked! I immediately pulled over to the side and stopped! As I looked out the front window to see if I could see anything, there was only one sign in view, lit by my headlights...

“Welcome to Dangerfield”

Huh... well, I guess it is time to upgrade my GPS...
