A lanterne / Japanese lantern poem is a cinquain, or five-line poem. Its name is derived from the shape the structure gives it. Lanternes have one syllable in the first line, two in the second, three in the third, four in the fourth. The final, fifth line is one syllable that wraps up the entire poem. There is typically no title given, though sometimes the first line is used as the title.
I enjoy experimenting with sound, meaning and structure when I create poetry, so this was fun to write. There's always hidden meanings in my lines and diction. Hope you enjoy!
