In the altered 1980, there are a few new things the reader may not recognize.

1. ‘vitrium flexile’ or Flexible glass. This was created during the Holly Roman empire. The Roman Emperor feared that this new material would devalue gold, silver, and other precious metals. However, Jon Smith ensured the process would be kept secret. The invention allowed the empire to hold on to power for another hundred years. (Book 2) In 1980, (Book 1) this glass became used in high rise buildings, deep sea exploration vehicles and armored vehicles for its high durability.

2. Roman Concrete. The Roman Empire had built concrete that lasted for centuries. In the altered 1980, this concrete is common place but expensive. It is used in all modern bridges and high rise buildings.

3. The sun beam. (Book 2) It was theorized the, in the age of the Pharaohs, they used reflected sunlight to cut the stones. Jon Smith discovered it was with the use of the very crystals he had discovered to power his time machine that did this rather than mirrors. In the altered version of 1980, (Book One) these crystals are used in mining, drilling, military use, etc.

4. The Survivors Army. (Book 1)
This is a loosely organized military group put together to defend one of the last livable places on Earth in the year 2050. They are the ones who had discovered the time machine.

5. Junkyard instruments. Musical Instruments that was made out of whatever was left to give hope through music after the Resource War of 2045.

6. Harp Organ. This is a small harp that resonates the sound of its strings in wooden reeds, giving a haunting sound.
