Old Testament prophecies 33-64 fulfilled in Jesus Christ
33. (The Drink-offering: "If any man thirst.") NIV Leviticus 23:36-37 “For seven days present offerings made to the LORD by fire, and on the eighth day hold a sacred assembly and present an offering made to the LORD by fire. It is the closing assembly; do no regular work. (These are the LORD's appointed feasts, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies for bringing offerings made to the LORD by fire--the burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings required for each day…)”

NIV John 7:37 “On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.’”
NIV John 19:31-37 “Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jews did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down. The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: ‘Not one of his bones will be broken,’ and, as another scripture says, ‘They will look on the one they have pierced.’"

34. (Not a bone of Him broken) NIV Numbers 9:9-12 “Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Tell the Israelites: “When any of you or your descendants are unclean because of a dead body or are away on a journey, they may still celebrate the LORD's Passover. They are to celebrate it on the fourteenth day of the second month at twilight. They are to eat the lamb, together with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. They must not leave any of it till morning or break any of its bones. When they celebrate the Passover, they must follow all the regulations.”’”

NIV John 19:31-36 “Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: ‘Not one of his bones will be broken…’"

35. (The serpent on a pole-Christ lifted up) NIV Numbers 21:8-9 “The LORD said to Moses, ‘Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.’ So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, he lived.”

NIV John 3:14-18 (Jesus said) “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.”

36. (Time: "I shall see him, but not now.") NIV Numbers 24:17 "I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the sons of Sheth.”

NIV Galatians 4:4-5 “But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.”
NIV Matthew 1:1-2,16 “A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham: Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers…and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.”

37. (Foretold to be the Prophet) NIV Deuteronomy 18:15 “The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him.”

NIV John 6:14 “After the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began to say, ‘Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.’"
KJV Luke 7:16 “And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, ‘That a great prophet is risen up among us’; and, ‘That God has visited his people.’”
KJV John 7:40 “Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, ‘Of a truth this is the Prophet.’”

38. ("Had you believed Moses, you would believe me.") NIV Deuteronomy 18:15-16 “The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him. For this is what you asked of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, ‘Let us not hear the voice of the LORD our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.’"

NIV John 5:45-47 (Jesus said) "But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?"

39. (Sent by the Father to speak His word) NIV Deuteronomy 18:18 “I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him.”

NIV John 8:28-29 “So Jesus said, ‘When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am [the one I claim to be] and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me. The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.’"

40. (Whoever will not hear Him must bear his sin) NIV Deuteronomy 18:19 “If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account.”

NIV John 12:48 (Jesus said) “There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day.”
NIV Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

41. (Cursed is he that hangs on a tree) NIV Deuteronomy 21:23 “…you must not leave his body on the tree overnight. Be sure to bury him that same day, because anyone who is hung on a tree is under God's curse. You must not desecrate the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.”

NIV Galatians 3:10-13 “All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.’ Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, ‘The righteous will live by faith.’ The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, ‘The man who does these things will live by them.’ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: ‘CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO IS HUNG ON A TREE.’"

42. (He would be called a Nazarene) KJV Judges 13:5 “…for the child will be a Nazarite…”

KJV Matthew 2:19-23 “But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, ‘Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life.’ And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there: but, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee: and he came and dwelled in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, ‘HE WILL BE CALLED A NAZARENE.’”

43. (Christ, our kinsman, has redeemed us) NIV Ruth 3:9 "Who are you?" he (Boaz) asked. "I am your servant Ruth," she said. "Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a kinsman-redeemer."
NIV Ruth 4:3-10 “Then he said to the kinsman-redeemer, ‘Naomi, who has come back from Moab, is selling the piece of land that belonged to our brother Elimelech. I thought I should bring the matter to your attention and suggest that you buy it in the presence of these seated here and in the presence of the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, do so. But if you will not, tell me, so I will know. For no one has the right to do it except you, and I am next in line.’ ‘I will redeem it,’ he said. Then Boaz said, ‘On the day you buy the land from Naomi and from Ruth the Moabitess, you acquire the dead man's widow, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property.’ At this, the kinsman-redeemer said, ‘Then I cannot redeem it because I might endanger my own estate. You redeem it yourself. I cannot do it.’ (Now in earlier times in Israel, for the redemption and transfer of property to become final, one party took off his sandal and gave it to the other. This was the method of legalizing transactions in Israel.) So the kinsman-redeemer said to Boaz, ‘Buy it yourself.’ And he removed his sandal. Then Boaz announced to the elders and all the people, ‘Today you are witnesses that I have bought from Naomi all the property of Elimelech, Kilion and Mahlon. I have also acquired Ruth the Moabitess, Mahlon's widow, as my wife, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property, so that his name will not disappear from among his family or from the town records. Today you are witnesses!’”

NIV Ephesians 1:3-7 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will--to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace…”

44. (Will be an anointed King to the Lord) NIV 1 Samuel 2:10 “…those who oppose the LORD will be shattered. He will thunder against them from heaven; the LORD will judge the ends of the earth. "He will give strength to his king and exalt the horn of his anointed."

NIV Matthew 28:18 “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.’”

45. (David's Seed) NIV 2 Samuel 7:12 “(The LORD said to David) When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom.

NIV Luke 1:31-33 “You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."
NIV Revelation 22:16 "I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star."
NIV Revelation 22:3,5 “No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him…There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign forever and ever.”

48. (The bodily ascension to heaven illustrated) NIV 2 Kings 2:11 “As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.”

NIV Matthew 1:1 “A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham…”

50. (To reign on David's throne forever) NIV 1 Chronicles 17:12-13 “He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever. I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor.”

NIV Luke 1:32-33 “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."

51. ("I will be His Father, He...my Son.") NIV 1 Chronicles 17:13 “I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor.”

KJV Hebrews 1:1-4 “God…has in these last days spoken to us by his Son, whom he has appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; being made so much better than the angels, as he has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.”
NIV Hebrews 1:5 “For to which of the angels did God ever say, ‘You are my Son; today I have become your Father?’ Or again, ‘I WILL BE HIS FATHER, AND HE WILL BE MY SON?’

52. (The Resurrection predicted) NIV Job 19:25-27 “(Job said) I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes--I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!”

NIV John 5:24-29 "(Jesus said) I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man. Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out--those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.”
NIV Revelation 20:11-15 “Then I (John) saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”

53. (The enmity of kings against Jesus foretold) NIV Psalms 2:1-3 “Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. ‘Let us break their chains,’ they say, ‘and throw off their fetters.’"

KJV Matthew 27:1 “When the morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death…”

THE KINGS OF THE EARTH TAKE THEIR STAND AND THE RULERS GATHER TOGETHER AGAINST THE LORD AND AGAINST HIS ANOINTED ONE. ' Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen.”

54. (To own the title, Anointed (Christ)) NIV Psalms 2:2 “The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One.”

NIV Acts 2:36 "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."

NIV Acts 13:16,29-33 “Standing up, Paul motioned with his hand and said: ‘Men of Israel and you Gentiles who worship God, listen to me…When they had carried out all that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb. But God raised him from the dead, and for many days he was seen by those who had traveled with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to our people. We tell you the good news: What God promised our fathers he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm: "YOU ARE MY SON; TODAY I HAVE BECOME YOUR FATHER. “’”

59. (He will rule with an iron scepter) NIV Psalms 2:9 “You will rule them with an iron scepter; you will dash them to pieces like pottery."

NIV Revelation 2:27 “`(Jesus said) He will rule them with an iron scepter; he will dash them to pieces like pottery' -- just as I have received authority from my Father.”
NIV Revelation 12:5 “She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne.”
NIV Revelation 19:15 “Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. ‘He will rule them with an iron scepter.’ He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.”

60. (Life comes through faith in Him) KJV Psalms 2:12 “Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and you perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.”

KJV 1 Timothy 4:9-10 “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance. For therefore we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those that believe.

61. (The mouths of babes perfect His praise) NIV Psalms 8:2 “From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.”

KJV Matthew 21:15 “And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, ‘Hosanna to the son of David’; they were very displeased.”
NIV Matthew 21:16 "Do you hear what these children are saying?" they asked him. "Yes," replied Jesus, "have you never read, `FROM THE LIPS OF CHILDREN AND INFANTS YOU HAVE ORDAINED PRAISE?’"

62. (His humiliation and exaltation) NIV Psalms 8:4-6 “…what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet…”

NIV 1 Corinthians 15:27 “For he ‘HAS PUT EVERYTHING UNDER HIS FEET.’ Now when it says that ‘everything’ has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ.
NIV Hebrews 2:6-9 “But there is a place where someone has testified: ‘WHAT IS MAN THAT YOU ARE MINDFUL OF HIM, THE SON OF MAN THAT YOU CARE FOR HIM? YOU MADE HIM A LITTLE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS; YOU CROWNED HIM WITH GLORY AND HONOR AND PUT EVERYTHING UNDER HIS FEET.’ In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.”

63. (Was not to see corruption) NIV Psalms 16:10 “…because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay.”

NIV Acts 2:29-31 "Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay.”

64. (Was to arise from the dead) NIV Psalms 16:9-11 “Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

NIV Acts 2:25-33 “David said about him: `I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. THEREFORE MY HEART IS GLAD AND MY TONGUE REJOICES; MY BODY ALSO WILL LIVE IN HOPE, BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT ABANDON ME TO THE GRAVE, NOR WILL YOU LET YOUR HOLY ONE SEE DECAY. YOU HAVE MADE KNOWN TO ME THE PATHS OF LIFE; YOU WILL FILL ME WITH JOY IN YOUR PRESENCE.' Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay. God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.
