A CROSS IN THE WILDERNESS

** Image ID #931511 Unavailable **

A simple cross in the wilderness
marks the place my loved one lies;
back home from another battle
to the sound of heartfelt cries.

He was called to serve his country,
wore with pride the Air Force blue;
Still his heart was in the mountains
where we'd live when he was through.

He planned a home in the mountains
where we would sit inside and gaze
out on the trees of the forest,
for the remainder of our days.

A telegram ended the dreams we had
and a flag-draped coffin came home,
We gathered there and said a prayer
and we left him there - alone.

Perhaps God knows how very much
he loved this spot, and so -
allows his spirit to soar above
looking down on all below.
