Summary of this Book...
Roland of Gilead is still in search of the infamous Dark Tower. With his new friends Eddie and Susannah, Roland continues. There are still "bad guys" to fight off, and Roland must try not to go totally insane, believing that Jake really existed, even though the facts say he didn't. Jake and Roland are finally reunited, with Roland promising never to drop Jake again. The four of them travel to the town of Lud (with Jake's pet billy-bumbler Oy, of course) to seek the next portal to take them to the Dark Tower. Lud is a town riddled with disease and superstition, effects of a possible nuclear war. Jake is taken hostage, and it is up to Roland to save him again.

The story concludes with the ka-tet aboard the insane train Blaine, who loves riddles. Roland and his friends must stump the train, or forfeit their lives. What will become of them???
I especially liked...
the scene of Jake in the abandoned lot, with the purple blades of grass, and the single red rose. A very powerful mental image.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
write this review! :)
This Book made me feel...
like I had a better understanding of the Dark Tower.
The author of this Book...
is Stephen King. Enough said.
I recommend this Book because...
it is an essential chapter in the Dark Tower series.
I don't recommend this Book because...
only if you haven't read the first two, The Gunslinger, and the Drawing of the Three.
Further Comments...
I had read the first four books of the Dark Tower series a long long time ago. I checked out The Wastelands at my local library, and I was amazed at what I had forgotten. Perhaps when I read it the first time, I didn't realize what an epic the series would be. Definitely a great read!!!!
