Summary of this Book...
The tale begins with a couple and their child who have been trying to evade capture by a rather dangerous group; they have come to the conclusion that they would prefer to die rather than be caught.

But at the last minute, the mother perswades the father that they might be able to save their child with their deaths... and she sketches out a quick plan.

Their daughter did survive, and is found by a group of miners who are looking for specific metals in asteriods and other areas.

The three men are surprised to find the child, but adopt her, and raise her before they next return to base.

But the girl they name Acorna is special. She is obviously an alien, and she has more tallents then most might guess.

This makes return to civilization interesting...
This type of Book is good for...
Reading in your free time; it's the type of book I read to relax.
I especially liked...
I liked the interaction between the miners about Acorna, and the rescue of the children.
I didn't like...
I didn't like what I wasn't supposed to like. The miners called Gill, Rafik, and Calum return to base to sell the materials they were contracked for.

When they arrive, the science departments what Acorna for one reason or other, and the miners have to resort to something close to kidnapping to get her back.

This action perswades other groups that these men might take more risks for other suffering children... and they become mixed into a group trying to dispose of child-slavery.

I didn't like the child slavery, or the 'Piper' who (and this is why it's rated PG-13) prefers to inappropriately touch immature children.

Of course, you're not supposed to like him.
The author of this Book...
One of the authors is rather well known; which means some will buy this book just because she wrote it.

The two authors did to a good job though-- I didn't lose interest really.
I recommend this Book because...
Good over Evil... the book has action in it, and in the end everything is set right. It is easy to read, and you don't have trouble rooting for the characters.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It's not very realistic to me. It's like the the whole world in it is smoothed over. It has its bad people, its good people, and the in-between characters.

It just didn't seem realistic to me; some science fictions get to the point where the whole world seems real, or like a possible future... this one didn't, to me anyway.
