Season 1 is the place to begin for newcomers to the TV series, "Friday Night Lights." Set in West Texas, the storyline revolves around a high school football team, coached by Kyle Chandler's character, but the show is ultimately about the challenges and joys of modern life.

This DVD and series is good for anyone, but especially useful for families with teens, since it brings up topics in a responsible manner that challenge teens in the real world.

I especially enjoy the portrayal of the two lead characters. The coach and his wife, who also works at the high school, are portrayed as a realistic couple who are trying to raise a family while also finding fulfillment in their careers, which both involve commitment to helping others in their community.

Top notch acting in this ensemble cast.

"Friday Night Lights" may revolve around a football team, but the actual games play a small part of the series. In short, the show is about modern life. The high school kids in the show don't always make the right choices, but when they fail, the show portrays the consequences of making wrong decisions. The coach, who is often a surrogate father to several fatherless football players, sets an ideal example for all husbands, fathers, coaches, and teachers.
