Summary of this Book...
The sci-fi masterpiece which inspired the movie Bladerunner. I have not seen the movie, but the book was incredible. It's about Rick Deckard, a man hired to retire rogue androids. The setting is Earth, but an Earth shattered by radiation after a World War.
This type of Book is good for...
There are so many themes and things to think about. The setting, the characters, everything is setup to make you feel as if you are really living in a desperate world.
I especially liked...
The mechanical animals. In this world, live animals are a rare commodity and it's almost shameful not to have one (in the eyes of the protagonist). People use mechanical animals and fake vets, (engineers for when they break down) to keep up appearances.
I didn't like...
There was nothing I didn't like other than finding one scene disturbing. In the spider scene, where an android pulls off it's legs to see what it would do, you could feel how terrible it was for the human watching. But this was effective for the story and so not really a negative.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Imagine many more sci-fi scenario's and tell everyone how much I liked it.
This Book made me feel...
Great. The ending really teaches you something about human nature. The character has less than he started with but is happier.
The author of this Book...
Philip K. Dick is one of the top sci-fi writers in history, according to everything I've ever heard. I never realised just how good he was until I read this and will be looking to read more of his stuff.
I recommend this Book because...
It's a classic and it's genius.
I don't recommend this Book because...
I do recommend it!!! Read it. Read it. Read it.
Further Comments...
I've read very few sci-fi in comparison with fantasy and it's works like this one that make me want to read more sci-fi. Loved it. Felt every second of this book and the concept of Mercerism (the religion in this book) was strange but a very necessary part of the whole experience.

I give it top marks even for the cover design on the SF Masterworks version.
