Summary of this Book...
Brian Dickinson relates the true story of how, 1,000 feet from the summit of Mount Everest, he was struck with snow blindness and forced to descend some way alone and sightless. His experience draws him closer to God and makes him appreciate his family and friends more.
This type of Book is good for...
I think only Christians would enjoy this book. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who isn't religious.
I especially liked...
I enjoyed finding out what it takes to climb Mount Everest. The day-to-day details, although boring when repeated, were interesting.

Insights into Dickinson's Navy training were also cool.

Kudos to Dickinson's calm and clear thinking in the face of a freaky and panic-worthy situation. It's incredible that he survived, and I know I would never have been able to react as well as he did.
I didn't like...
The actual "blind descent" of the book's title actually takes up only four pages of the book! Up until that point, the story moves slowly and is quite dull. I felt that the story could be told in a lot less words, although I appreciate the fact that it is written like a log book or journal.

While I appreciate Dickinson's devotion to his family, he talks about them a lot in a way that isn't interesting to the reader and only takes up space.

I found that a lot of information Dickinson shared about his Navy training wasn't anything new to me.
I recommend this Book because...
It's an inspiring spiritual account.
I don't recommend this Book because...
As a book, it doesn't work as well as if it was a short story, article, documentary or even a short film.
