I'm a huge fan of Hurwitz's Orphan X series and not so much his standalone works. This one truly surprised me, though, particularly with how well-developed both the protagonist and antagonist were. Hurwitz did a great job giving the protagonist some truly awful qualities while similarly making the antagonist understandable. There were times in the book where I wasn't even sure I wanted the killer to be caught or the protagonist to succeed. That back and forth dynamic really kept my interest throughout the book, which otherwise would have felt a little formulaic. This is one of the better standalones Huwritz has written, in my opinion.
