This is true. But I’d rather help you improve than just flatter you. :) Three rules I see broken too often: 1. Show, don't tell. Don't bore us with a character's thoughts or back-story. 2. Start with a bang. Publishers often won't read past the first lines so make them count. 3. Create conflict!
