We live much of life amid unique choices. Joy is anchored in The One beyond our life.
There are times when solitude is better than society, and silence is wiser than speech. We should be better Christians if we were more alone, waiting upon God, and gathering through meditation on His Word spiritual strength for labour in his service. We ought to muse upon the things of God, because we thus get the real nutriment out of them. . . . Why is it that some Christians, although they hear many sermons, make but slow advances in the divine life? Because they neglect their closets, and do not thoughtfully meditate on God's Word. They love the wheat, but they do not grind it; they would have the corn, but they will not go forth into the fields to gather it; the fruit hangs upon the tree, but they will not pluck it; the water flows at their feet, but they will not stoop to drink it. From such folly deliver us, O Lord. . . .
― Charles Spurgeon

Our anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strengths.
― C. H. Spurgeon

Hope itself is like a star- not to be seen in the sunshine of prosperity, and only to be discovered in the night of adversity.
― Charles Haddon Spurgeon

If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for.
― Charles Spurgeon

A Bible that’s falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t.

Visit many good books, but live in the Bible.

The Word of God is Logos, Truth,
the Person of the Lord.
He preached the Word right from His youth
to leaders of the Word.
(John 1:1-4)

His parents lost Him for three days,
so harried and distressed.
They found Him where they ought to pray,
to worship and be blessed.

"My Son, why did you treat us so?
We sorrowed after thee."
"Why did you seek me? Didn't you know
my Father's work is me?"
(Luke 2:41-52)

Quite speechless they, when the Word was lost.
The same 'tis in this day.
Humanity knows not the cost
of meditating's way.
The Precious Word is often tossed
or in a shelf's display.

The Word of God created all
when life on Earth began.
The Logos Truth is why we call,
according to His Plan.

"I have no shame from this dear Word.
It is the pow'r to save
to all, who rest upon the Lord,
each chosen one or slave.
"
(Romans 1:16)

The Word of God is Christ, the Son,
the Scriptures ever live.
We preach the Word, that souls be won,
forever to survive.

This Jesus from eternal Home to Earth
has gifted His Dear Presence just to save
the lost ones, who had need of His new birth,
redeeming them from Sin's appointed grave.

He came a humble man, though Lord of All.
He died in pain, though angels strained to hear
one Master's Word to fight at moment's call.
They stayed in pain, that Sin He'd fully clear.

In royalty, He lived His Stable Place.
Was placed in stable home in Bethlehem.
He lived on Earth in Gentleness and Grace,
was smelted in the fire, this lasting gem.

The God-Man He created and He serves.
Eternal Glory always He deserves.

My Hope is placed upon the Lord, Who's sure.
The tension pulls me tight to Jesus' side.
Secure in Christ, I'm made to still endure.
The One, Who's Sure, in Him to e'er abide.

The gales may wail but Jesus never moves.
Pandemic Kudzu covers hills and dales.
Yet, worthy Christ, the foe He now reproves
in love, that lifts and never, ever fails.

Salvation's Hope, it's found in Christ, our Love,
who died and rose, again, each soul to seek.
This life is lived by Standards from Above
through merits of the Lord, Who's gentle, meek.

The energy for living in the Lord
comes through consuming fully His Dear Word.

The sun will shine throughout each living day,
though earthly homes may not be blessed to see.
The lasting Flame is ever on display.
The Hand of God gives light to Earth so free.

The Son of God is shining evermore,
though souls of Earth may not yet see His Truth.
He daily shines as Life's most golden Door
to a-ged ones and hearts still in their youth.

A Son-filled home, new son now grows in bloom
beginning chapter for the Lord's Own Book.
A preacher, that the Lord now urges, "Groom!"
God's flame in future days will cause men look.

Though clouds may blank the sun, Whose Light now "gone"
remains as bright, until the Vict'ry's won.

The baby comes in hope, though overdue.
A parable of these new days we live.
For when the pain is past and fully through,
rejoicing for new life is what we give.

These pangs of birth, they charge us, "Find the Light!"
We search through Darkness, squeezed, and finally held.
Forget we smallness in the day so bright.
The days of past, they fade as new be telled.

What Hope from God! New life for living, yet!
In darkness stalks a menace at our heels,
while 'tween the knees comes hope without regret,
and menace finds its purpose quite repealed.

This life is birthed for us by God each day.
His Hands, they carry all, who Him obey.

This world is growing dark and most unclear.
So many voices shout, "We know the way!"
But when I face uncertainty and fear,
Who guides me home through worry and dismay?

True North alerts my compass, "Follow on.
The day of march has come again at last.
Your Lord is God's One everlasting Son.
He'll lead you Home at one last trumpet's blast."

Salvation's Lamb has built the narrow road.
Just those will find it through the Truth, the Way.
Go north in Him to rest in e'er Abode.
Find peace and hope. No debt is left to pay.

The Way is known for He remains True North.
No other One attains His lasting worth.

Her days on Earth became a lasting mark,
and now I live to carry on this task.
For passion comes from just a little spark,
and daily deeds are all, that God will ask.

She lifted voice to fill the air of Earth
these 93 years ago today, I trow.
For history was marked by her dear birth,
and gifted days as she did daily grow.

A man-child twice she bore upon the knees.
A husband borne. She helped his service thrive.
His words through sons lost souls God often frees.
Three years now freed, she'll ne'er be caused to strive.

God gave her birth these three times known,
and called her Home. To Him, she's flown.

Salvation comes to spirits, who believe
by Power from Eternity's Great Grace.
The pow'r of Sin can only He relieve,
Who smiles on us with His Blest, Loving Face.

But gone the days of giving sin a pass
for Christ did suffer on the cross anon.
He gives no wink to be just daily mass,
but changes us to make each sin begone.

Redemption's life must focus on the Lord,
those tentacles of Sin be wrenched a-loose
for as we dine upon delicious Word
His Righteousness the more we'll ever choose.

At end of days He merry will applaud
the ones, who left their lives to live with God.

Yoked with Jesus, I'm free of having to carry my burden by myself.
Sadly, I have often forgotten this important principle.
I run ahead or I lag behind when Jesus' yoke, like the Pillar of Cloud or Fire of Israel,
is waiting to be obeyed, and is unmoved from His Purpose at any given day or time.

Did I really become yoked with Jesus at age six when I prayed the prayer to be saved?
He said I would become peaceful when I became His child,
but I haven't always been peaceful. Fretful, I've struggled with strife of heart.
"I've got to get it right, to know I'm saved, to be confident beyond the shadow of a doubt!"

That doesn't sound like peace, does it? That doesn't sound like a light burden, does it?

Yet how many times in my life have I been on the way to getting into trouble,
(big or little, there is no difference before GOD,)
but before I could cross that final line to irreparably damage my life in one or many ways
something yanked me back, preventing me from going forward with my plans.

The yoke of Jesus, a leash for my doglike inner man, running after the flesh.
The yoke of Jesus: the Lord saying, "You see restraint. My peace means being kept."
The yoke of Jesus, an ability I do not have in a task, that gets done.
The yoke of Jesus teaches me to walk in lock-step with Him, learning His rest.

One would think it is wise to yoke together two oxen of similar strength,
but that is not always the case. Often a much stronger ox takes one side of the yoke
with a weaker ox on the other side to train and to build strength in the weaker.
The "mentor" ox pulls more than the load for the farmer. He carries the learner, too.

For more than fifty years, I have been yoked with Jesus. I have often caused Him to take a heavy step, not budging, until His anxious, impertinent, dancing little learner would quit kicking, standing for the new step. Experience and age are starting to make me a better yokefellow, but anxiety causes me to rattle the bars. Must rest be a lifelong lesson?
