Really want to write something profound. But really, i don't know what to write. How many people will actually read this? Who will correct my grammar and spelling? I want to write and publish on here.... but i don't want people to hate my writing and tell me it is bad. I just want to write. And be told how to make it better. I wrote a novel geared toward high interest/low vocabulary once. And it bombed. I work with students who have special needs and many of the books they want to read are above their ability. I may try to rewrite it. I may try to write about things i like, such as witch craft or no holds barred sex... we will see how this all pans out. Toodles.
Anyone here who would tell you, I hate your writing, it's awful, shouldn't be reviewing. While getting criticisms can sometimes be tough, they should always be constructive or they do us no good. You can't tell a swimmer, "You're too slow! Swim faster!" That does nothing. All you've done is made them feel bad that they're are performing as well as they can. Instead, they should be told, "You're not swimming to the best of your ability. If you do this, that, and this other thing, it should help correct your form and give you more speed." Writing is no different. Write Elly, write whatever you feel like writing, whatever comes to you. If anyone is so much of an asshat (pardon my phrasing), that they would tell you your writing is bad, ignore them. If you get someone who comes in and says this could be better, here are my suggestions - take those suggestions and run with them. They can only make you better. And remember too, not everyone will "get" your writing and that's okay too. Not all suggestions will be applicable to your work.

Good luck and happy writing!!

Chris

PS Don't go into whatever project you may begin with the goal of being profound. You'll set yourself up for failure. Don't worry about being clever, profound, witty, or groundbreaking. Write what comes to you, sort it out, and your end project will naturally become what it is meant to be :)
