Wow. You had me hook, line, and sinker through the whole tale. I laughed every time he hated on the sultan. I don't know, but it was hilarious. "I will do nothing in the name of the sultan" than he rushes into battle. That was awesome.
I really like the Arabian nights so I really enjoyed this as well. I didn't see the 'roughly' too much. I thought it went exactly with the theme.
I do feel sorry for Zailiman. I'm sure we all make that mistake at times, but hopefully we catch ourselves before we get our heads chopped off and do the right thing.

I really like her Maddy. She's awesome. I like your voice or her voice, I should say, as she lives through these few scenes. I can see that you really love to write. Hee hee, you taught me a lot about this genre too. I could pick out which words went perfectly with suspense and which ones with fantasy. I love words. Words, Words, Words, Words, Words. Lol, your story made me giddy.
I hope you will like the novel I am positing soon too. It's also got a touch of fantasy, but it's a romance.

*Good humored laughter* I don't get it!!!!! Lol. I don't get it!!!!! Did she sock it to him, did she finally write for herself. I"m laughing because I can't get the picture of her laying back in her chair with a triumphant look on her face out of my mind. It's so funny. Does she like him? I'm romantic like that. I think everyone's got a crush on everyone, lol.
In all seriousness, this was a very entertaining read. I tried to write once about being frustrated as a writer and I couldn't, but you do it much justice. I stayed with her the entire time and I saw the whole scene so clearly through her mind. I laughed a lot too.

I think your story is wonderfully constructed for its size. You waste no word to tell the story and add just the right amount of anticipation. I thought at first that he was the one dying and needing comfort but I didn't read the description. This was a random spin. I'm glad. I understand how the character feels, which is why I kept reading. I tend to stay away from spiritual writings because of my own spiritual background right now, but this was very nice and comforting for me, gave me a little hope that I'll find what he found too.
I'm giving it a Five because I think it's perfect as is, but if you ever feel like expanding the story, I would be interested in reading that as well.
