I enjoyed this story because it really took the end of the world scenario and placed it in a setting that many people today can relate to. Many people now live in suburban neighborhoods (like me) and to see how the neighborhood banded together really stuck with me. I found myself thinking how my neighbors and friends would react under the same circustances.
I liked that we had a backstory about the main character's relationship with his wife. I do think that a little more time spent fleshing out Carolyn and the kids as characters and getting me to care a little more about them would have gave the ending more impact for me personally. Although, part of the fun for me was knowing that something was going to happen to Carolyn, but not knowing exactly what until it happened. To me, that is the sign of a good horror story.
In closing. this story worked well for me because it provided us 2 cautionary messages: 1) too much dependancy on technology is not always good, 2) if you do not learn from your mistakes...
