Lovely, you have shown how people secretly feel about achieving in life and being successful and yet a reminder to never forget their roots where they started. You show the growth of a person through the trials and tribulations and how they have a choice to grow from it or not.
The Timekeepers key shows how the obsession of time or obsession with anything else, keeps people from living in the moment. It prevents people from experiencing joy if they were not so absorbed in chasing something that may well be elusive. Even if they find or achieve what they chase, in their wake they have lost things and people that were right in front of them.
Time passes differently for people who are obsessed with something, they do not see how much the world changes around them. When the clock maker returns all is changed because he was too focused on his obsession.

This hold true in the real world, everyone is chasing something, families are destroyed by parents chasing success that they have no time to see their kids grow or their families fall apart. When they are much older, they wonder where time went and they wonder when everything changed.
This is a very descriptively written story that I enjoyed - Telling a story of time in a fictional sense is a good way to depict that people should chose carefully what they chase and how much time they want to invest in achieving their goals before it is too late.
It is a lovely poem, I would have opted for words that would make more of an emotional impact or more emotionally descriptive words to indicate the fear of not being able to return home if something happened to them on the front. On the other hand a lot of soldiers do suffer detachement or disassociation disorder which makes them seem aloof.
