Since this was a short story, there is obviously less room for the mental transformation into the monster that the narrarator becomes, but it still seems drastic.

Accidental fireworks---> Surgery & bandages----> Childhood taunting-----> Passage of time -----> Grown-up revenge
Yes, it is a nice full circle package. I still feel like there is some good stuff missing in the middle.
