I read it three times because it was completely fun to do so. I'm taking a creative writing class, and I will take this exercise to my professor - I'm curious to see what we can come up with in class. This was fun, witty, to-the-point, and super skilled. I have high hopes for me -so hopefully one day I'm as good as this!
1- People talk behind other's back to feel better about themselves, to analize something that bugs them and they can't tell you themselves, and to point out your behavior. There's many ways to stop people from doing that.
2- Same as number one. Humans don't critizice because they think they're perfect; it's just a way to cope with the fact that someone might have a trait that you desire, or you have a trait that they really wish they didn't have, but go about it the wrong way. Don't we all do it at one point?
3- True. There's naturally shy people that eventually work their way up there. I believe childhood plays a big part in this, and even genes! Some are more susceptible than others, but this is not a trait that should be critized, but rather nurtured. It's tough as it is to not be an immune cynic in front of society's hard pounds.
4- Pedagogical lies are a must; the rest are unnecessary most of the times. Lying takes too much work, and then you start thinking that everyone else lies too. The real world is full of lies, almost making it a full time job to distinguish the good ones from the bad ones.
There you have it. You obviously had this inside and I can tell the kind of mood you were in when you wrote it, so I decided to share my opinion with you. I think every single person partakes in one of these activities at one point, and not being judgmental is the key to identify it -that might keep you from experiencing it again. Open mind/open eyes is the way to go.
I can tell you were influenced by true emotions when you wrote this; it has that life behind it, or a soul of its own. Congratulations on a very nice poem! What's your setting for writing? Do you have to be inspired by certain aspects, past experiences, future goals, or are you one of those that comes up with something excellent while paying for the gallon of milk at the supermarket? I'd like to know!
Sounds like the perfect follow up to Phoebe's "Smelly Cat" from Friends. I know you meant no comedy, but taking it so seriously is actually comical. It's a good effect, though, and I liked it. It sounds like you really like cats because you put a lot of real emotions into it. Good job!
Very touching -I wish I could say realistic but for as accurate as it sounds, I couldn't imagine myself in his spot because I am far from that age. I enjoyed it a lot, having no decorative side-stories but only what you wanted to express. It's a rather common topic but there is no tragic end here, nor does it come with tissues and grandkids. It's just a perfectly possible situation approached in a marvelous writing style. This small piece makes me want to read more of your work. It's great!
