Oh my God, this is awesome. So compelling that it cuts through to the heart. We have a need as a society to villanize people who do such things, but we do not collectively identify with the horrendous guilt and suffering felt by those who cause grief and destruction due to hopeless addiction.
I have only read Chapter 1 so far, but this is beautifully written. I love the description of how Zaharra finds comfort in gardening. The subject is very dark, but you approach it in a way that reveals the victim's struggle with inner shame and a feeling of ugliness before God (even though she did nothing wrong).
Zaharra's sense of shame is heightened by the intolerant religious culture in which she lives, and one can feel her sense of condemnation in your words.
