This is a beautiful piece of writing. I love the image of the girl clinging desperately to the stone angel in the midst of death and chaos. Your descriptive work is just lovely. Kudos to you and keep writing. I would love to see this expanded.
There are a few typos, but overall the story really captured me. I'm 32 years old and I've always wanted my life to still be as fun as it was when I was a kid. It's horribly depressing in the end, but life is not all gumdrops and blue skies. I like that you dared to go that route...Keep on writing!

Such a classic fear that even out of childhood, it still seeps into our subconscious at times. I love the way this is worded. I love the way the lines "Night-light glowing, shadows growing" flow...The whole thing is so simple, but yet it speaks to the scared child in all of us.

So lovely, dark, and simple. I think we all know the fear of the dark and nightmare world. The things that exist beyond our reality or behind a door can make our imaginations run wild. Sometimes you fear both being awake or being asleep. It's hard to decide which is worse. I feel that in this piece.
