Allen, Great write. I'm a 55 year old dude with two teenage boys full of piss and vinegar. I taught them the art of backpacking and an appreciation of the great outdoors. Now they expect me to keep up. I like scenery much more than the manly pursuit to conquer a trail. Slow down, wait up and look around is my new mantra. I totally felt your pain. Very well written heartwarming story about two strangers, well one stranger and his son. I too had a special bond with my grandfather that went very deep. He loved to talk work which bored the hell out of me, especially when each story was told for the 5th time. On long trips I would guide his stories by asking him about times and places he'd been and those stories will stick with me forever. I like your style and honest account. Tom, This is the second story of yours I read, I liked The Sound too. You really make the characters come alive. I saw them clear as day in my mind.
