What a refreshing read! Sci-Fi is one of my great loves and it is so rare to find an engaging story that is as well written as this. I loved this description in particular: "The stars along the edges of the nebula, drowned in its luminescence, faded into tiny speckles within its colorful fabric. " - superb! The characters are fleshing out nicely even 'though it is only chapter 1, an insight into background and motivation is largely in place and the plot is already well on its way.
I love the idea of the pirating profession being brought into the future, last time I saw it mentioned was in "Bio of a Space Tyrant" and that was a long time ago. It offers massive scope for interesting stories of the darker, seedier side of life.
I would like to balance this praise with some appropriate criticism but I simply cannot fault what I have read so far - please accept my apologies for this ommission. You have a talent that I would sacrifice much to obtain and that is rare to see even in published novels (and I have a huge collection and am a voracious reader of both sci-fi and fantasy).
I truly wish you luck, this is the best I have seen for a long, long time. My apologies once again for the lack of constructive criticism but I simply can't fault it so far. I'll read more when I get a chance in the hope that I can help in a small way.
Great stuff! Full marks from me.
