My first poem, written when I was twelve.
I hope I did not die in vain.
I'll never be drenched in the thundering rain.
Or be ridiculed by everyone in sight,
Or deal with drugs or parasites.

I'll never again hear the evening news
(I hear Dan Rather wears mis-matched shoes).
Or be yelled at by brother or mom
(quality time is not the bomb).

So to you I say again,
I hope I did not die in vain.

Author's Note: I wrote this when I was going through a rough time. Can you tell? This was published in my high school literary mag. in a slightly different version.
