I wrote this in reflect of Hurricane Katrina.

Wind howling loud and strong
Rain pounding hard and long

CRASH!!!!!!

What was that?
You asked yourself.

That was life coming to a dead stop,
as the wall of water swallows,
everything and everyone in one gulp.

As you crawl
in the dark
searching for a way out...

You start to fear
that there is nothing
left for you to hold dear

And help is neither far or near

The thoughts of your family
gone in an instant
Praying that you
will find them eventually

From room to room
In the darkest of nights
Searching for those small hands
you once held so tight

Crying for help
for anyone to hearyour plea
You begin to fall to your knees
and pray.

You pray for all those that are
sick and dying
And those that have lost the ones
dear to their heart

But most of all the children
that are lost and without families

You begin to stand
and the warmth begins
to fill your heart
As you feel the small
and fragile fingers in your hand

Fear and joy
fill your eyes with tears
And they begin to fall down
your smudged face

As you look upward and see
a smiling face peering down upon you
You begin to smile for the first time in days

Knowing the things will be all right now...
that you can see the light.
