how I learned who handled money well in my family
Janie's Purse

One evening's visit at my son's home gave me the opportunity to talk with my oldest grandaughter, Janie.

We talked about first grade and the conversation led to the subject of lunch money. Janie said, " I use quarters to buy my lunch at school. Do you have any quarters? "

" I'm sure I have some in my pocket. How do you carry your money to school? " I said.

" My purse. " she replied.

" Well, if you get your purse I will put some quarters in it. " I offered.

A quick trip to her bedroom and back, soon produced a pink barbie doll purse that appeared packed full of quarters.

After looking at the loot she had collected, I said, " Here's a few quarters. When you need more, I'll find some for you. "

I could see that Janie could handle finances at an early age.
