Remembering my dog Cherokee,......
Those sad eyes,
Always looking at me,
hopefully,
as I try to concentrate
on any number of daily duties
life throws my way.
I shift,
and her head raises,
eyes light up,
with simple anticipation,
that this time,
my attention may turn to her.
I try not to look,
but those eyes plead,
and my guilt builds,
as I tryto ignore
this loving creature...
Wanting no more,
than simple acknowledgement,
the sound of my voice,
or, perhaps a quick pat,
or scratch,
behind her ear.
As I say her name,
She'll lovingly nuzzle,
give a quick kiss,
her tail wagging with excitement,
at such simple fare.
Yet, with a word,
and little more,
she returns
to her spot on the floor,
contented,
if not totally satisfied.
Once again,
I can attend to
all those other tasks,
grateful for the simple needs,
and trusting love,
of such a friend.
