It stands alone on its hill as it has for years
On The Hill

Standing stolid on its hill
With stony silence and steadfast will
An empty testament to the past
The watchman holds his vigil fast

Once others kept it company there
When days were warm and weather fair
But summer gave to winter’s frost
Now all is still, all life is lost

Forever more it stands alone
An empty house, a broken home
