Thoughts of easter
EASTER HAS CHANGED

Easter used to mean so much,
But now it’s fraught with
Commercialism.

The hot cross buns come out early,
No rind and even fruit free;
Let alone the incongruous
Choc chip ones.

The Easter Eggs
Are of little surprise.
They appear to get bigger in size
And much heavier on the pocket,

Let alone that they don’t taste
The way they did when we were
Kids.

We Aussies have the
Bunny and a Bilby too;
Dual egg bringers
Vying for space.

Easter egg hunts -
Oh, I groan
We now hide them inside the home.
You never know
Who may take advantage
And steal from a garden.

Yet, the fun and joy in
The child’s eyes
Makes us remember
How much fun it was.

Fish on Friday,
Well, not so much a treat
Any longer
Like Easter.

Authors note: A Bilby is an Australian Marsupial. Rather like a small rat with long rabbit ears. They are cute *Bigsmile*, we Aussies have decided that a Bilby is our Easter Bunny. After all they are better suited to the climate.
